Who we are

Cairo Stay Finder is an independent project for travellers preparing their first (or tenth) trip to Cairo. There is no travel agency or large corporation behind the site: it is edited by people who actually know the city, after visiting many times, speaking Arabic, getting lost in its neighbourhoods and learning the hard way what works and what doesn't.

Why this site exists

Cairo is huge, intense and widely misunderstood. Most guides describe it from a distance: they recycle the same three lines about the pyramids and miss the details that actually change a trip. Meanwhile, search results fill up with machine-translated sites, automated content and generic advice.

Cairo Stay Finder is the opposite of that:

Long, honest guides based on physically having been to every place we recommend.
Hand-picked hotels chosen on personal criteria: real location, value for money, recent verified reviews. We don't list hotels we wouldn't recommend to a friend. The full criteria are in How we pick hotels.
No filler. If a place isn't worth it, we say so. If an area has downsides, we list them.
Bilingual: every article is written — not machine-translated — in English and in Spanish.

How we know Cairo

We have travelled to Cairo many times, in different seasons of the year, on different budgets and from different neighbourhoods. We speak Arabic, which gives us access to information most tourist sources don't have: real prices, customs, what taxi drivers say, the prayers, the rumours of the bazaar.

The texts are written by people who have walked the streets, not by people who have read about them on Wikipedia.

How we fund the site

This site is free to use. To make it sustainable, some links to hotels are affiliate links (mainly to Booking.com): if you book through one of them, we receive a small commission from the partner — at no extra cost to you. The price you pay is exactly the same.

Important: that commission does not influence which hotels appear or in what order. We recommend what we would recommend to a friend. If we are not sure about a hotel, we don't list it — even if it would pay better.

What we are and what we are not

We are: an independent information and recommendation site.

We are not:

A travel agency (we don't sell packages or flights).
A payment processor (bookings happen on third-party sites).
An automated price comparator (each hotel is chosen with editorial judgement).
Owners or operators of any of the hotels we recommend.
